Originally made from clay, the name ‘Mridangam’ is derived from ‘Mrid’ (clay) and ‘Angam’ (body). Over time, the construction evolved, and today, the Mridangam is typically made from jackfruit wood with a drumhead fashioned from multiple layers of hide.
