தோடுடைய செவியன் விடை ஏறியோர் தூவெண் மதிசூடி
காடுடைய சுடலைப் பொடிபூசி என் உள்ளம் கவர் கள்வன்
ஏடுடைய மலரான் முனை நாள் பணிந்து ஏத்த அருள்செய்த
பீடுடைய பிரமாபுர மேவிய பெம்மான் இவனன்றே.
thoadudaiya seviyan vidaiyae’riyoar thoove’nmathisoodik
kaadudaiyasuda laippodipoosiyen nu’l’langkavar ka’lvan
aedudaiyamala raanmunai:naadpa’ni:n thaeththa aru’lseytha
peedudaiyapira maapuramaeviya pemmaa nivanan’rae.
Meaning:
The Lord Siva,
Ear stud adorns his ears,
Smears his body with ash
From mega crematorium (of the worlds during the end),
Crescent moon adorns his head,
He rides on the bull (of dharma with vEdic scriptures as its four legs)
He is the Lord Who resides in the Temple of Brahma pura (our body, the city of the soul)
He is the thief captivates my heart (soul).

மந்திர மாவது நீறு வானவர் மேலது நீறு
சுந்தர மாவது நீறு துதிக்கப் படுவது நீறு
தந்திர மாவது நீறு சமயத்தி லுள்ளது நீறு
செந்துவர் வாயுமை பங்கன் திருவால வாயான் திருநீறே.
manthiram aavathu neeRu; vaanavar mElathu neeRru;
suntharam aavathu neeRu; thuthikkap paduvathu neeRu;
thanthiram aavathu neeRu; samayaththil uLLathu neeRu;
senthuvar vaayumai pangkan thiruvaala vaayaan thiruneeRE.
Meaning:
The Holy Ash [Thiru neeRu] is mantra;
The Holy Ash adorns the Celestials;
The Holy Ash is the source of beauty;
The Holy Ash brings hands together in prayer;
The Holy Ash is meditation;
The Holy Ash is spoken of in scriptures of old;
The Holy Ash is from Him – Consort of the red-lipped Goddess;
Who resides in the temple of Thiruvaalavaay [Madurai].
When Sanbandhar went to Madurai, Jains put fire to the place where he was staying with devotees. The entire heat of the fire went back to the PANdiyan king who consented for the arson as unrelenting fever. Then on the request of the Queen Mankaiyark-arasi, Sambandhar visited the king and cured his fever by applying the Holy Ash Thiru-neeRu all over his body while singing the greatness of the Holy Ash by the stanza starting with above song.

இடரினுந் தளரினும் எனதுறுநோய்
தொடரினும் உனகழல் தொழுதெழுவேன்
கடல்தனில் அமுதொடு கலந்தநஞ்சை
மிடறினில் அடக்கிய வேதியனே
இதுவோஎமை யாளுமா றீவதொன் றெமக்கில்லையேல்
அதுவோவுன தின்னருள் ஆவடு துறையரனே.
Idarinum thaLarinum enathuRu nOi
thodarinum una kazhal thozhuth(u) ezhuvEn
kadal thanil amuthodu kalantha nanchai
midaRinil adakkiya vEthiyanE
ithuvO emai aaLumaaru eevthonRu emakkillaiyEl
athuvO unath(u) innaruL aavadu thuRai aranE.
Meaning:
Even in the face of great obstacles, weakness, and unrelenting illness, I never forget worshiping you. You the Gracious, swallowed the poison mixed in the immortal imparting nectar from the ocean and held it at your throat (to save others). If there is nothing to give to us now in need, is this the way You admit us as your protégé? Is your sweet Grace like that? Oh! Lord Siva at Thiru-Avadu-thuRai!

4. காத லாகிக் கசிந்துகண் ணீர்மல்கி
ஓது வார்தமை நன்னெறிக் குய்ப்பது
வேதம் நான்கினும் மெய்ப்பொரு ளாவது
நாதன் நாமம் நமச்சி வாயவே.
Kaathalaahik kasinthu kaNNeer malki
Othuvaar thamai nannerikk(u} uippathu
vEtham naankinum meipporuL aavathu
naathan naamam namchchi vaayavE.
Meaning:
Those who utters It in prayer,
the Lord’s Name, Na-Ma-Si-Va-Ya,
Which is the True Essence of the four vEdic Scriptures
With deep heart-melting devotion
Lovingly, affectionately, with tears streaming,
Is sure to be guided to the righteous Path.

பெண்ணாகிய பெருமான்மலை
திருமாமணி திகழ

அண்ணாமலை தொழுவார்வினை
வழுவாவண்ண மறுமே.

udanaakiya oruvan
peNNaakiya perumaan malai
thirumaa maNith thikazha
maNNaarnthana aruvith thiraL
mazhalaim muzha vathirum
aNNaamalai thozhuvaar vinai
vazhuvaa vaNNam aRumE.
Meaning:
The effects of all actions of those who worship Lord Siva Thiru-aaNNA-malai will be rooted out.
