Meaning:
The Holy Ash [Thiru neeRu] is mantra;
The Holy Ash adorns the Celestials;
The Holy Ash is the source of beauty;
The Holy Ash brings hands together in prayer;

The Holy Ash is spoken of in scriptures of old;

When Sanbandhar went to Madurai, Jains put fire to the place where he was staying with devotees. The entire heat of the fire went back to the PANdiyan king who consented for the arson as unrelenting fever. Then on the request of the Queen Mankaiyark-arasi, Sambandhar visited the king and cured his fever by applying the Holy Ash Thiru-neeRu all over his body while singing the greatness of the Holy Ash by the stanza starting with above song.

Even in the face of great obstacles, weakness, and unrelenting illness, I never forget worshiping you. You the Gracious, swallowed the poison mixed in the immortal imparting nectar from the ocean and held it at your throat (to save others). If there is nothing to give to us now in need, is this the way You admit us as your protégé? Is your sweet Grace like that? Oh! Lord Siva at Thiru-Avadu-thuRai!
